Shadwell to Disperse Australian Portfolio at National Sale

Media Release - Friday February 12

A once in a lifetime opportunity to secure some of Australia’s highest quality weanlings, broodmares and racing stock from one of world’s foremost thoroughbred players will be presented during the 2021 Magic Millions National Sale this May and June.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum's illustrious Shadwell operation will offer a significant dispersal of their Australian bloodstock portfolio at the Southern Hemisphere's number one breeding stock sale.

The Shadwell Unreserved Dispersal of broodmares, weanlings and the reduction sale of race fillies will allow the market the opportunity to acquire bloodstock from one of the most substantial investors in the Australian racing and breeding scene over the last thirty-five years.

The horses will be presented for auction by Yarraman Park, who will act as selling agent for Shadwell. The quality packed draft will go under the hammer unreserved at the Gold Coast from May 20 to June 4.

The Magic Millions relationship with Sheikh Hamdan and the team at Shadwell will complete a full circle with their first Australian purchase, Group One Blue Diamond heroine Mahaasin, bought on the Gold Coast in 1989, all the way through to their latest Australian Group One winner Qafila.

The unreserved sale at the Gold Coast will comprise 38 broodmares and race fillies, as well as 21 weanlings.

"Shadwell has been a huge part of the Australian racing and breeding industry for decades and the legacy through their stock in the breeding barn and on the racetrack will be seen for many years in the future," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

"It is certainly a bittersweet moment to see the culmination of Sheikh Hamdan's Australian investments down under. However it is a great honour for Magic Millions to be entrusted to market and sell the Shadwell Unreserved Dispersal given it all began here in the 80s. We are tremendously excited to present this unique buying opportunity on behalf of Sheikh Hamdan."

"The National Sale during May and June will be the major focus for Australian and global bloodstock investors for what is shaping to be an outstanding catalogue in 2021," Bowditch added.

Entries for the 2021 edition of the Magic Millions National Sale, comprising weanlings, race fillies and broodmares, yearlings and racehorses will open soon.
