First Winner for Wolf Cry

Larneuk Stud’s Street Cry (IRE) stallion Wolf Cry became the 20th first-season sire to put a winner on the board when his striking son General Wolffe spaced nine overmatched rivals in a 1200m maiden at Doomben on Thursday.

Ridden by apprentice Adin Thompson for trainer Ron Cameron, General Wolffe came with a sweeping run to take control of the race at the 300m.

It was an easy watch for his supporters as General Wolffe put five and a half lengths on the Pride of Dubai filly Miss Got with the Defcon filly Miss Response a further two and a half lengths back in third.

It was the fifth trip to the races for General Wolffe who finished third to Jessica Rabbit at Doomben on December 30 when making his career debut.

Cameron twice tried to sell General Wolffe. The son of Wolf Cry failed to make his $8,000 reserve as a weanling and none were willing to meet his $40,000 reserve at the 2020 Gold Coast 2YOs In Training Sale.

Cameron said he was happy with the oucome.

“I bought the mare in foal. I was going to sell him at the ready to run but, I didn’t get enough money for him, so I kept him. It’s turned out to be a wise decision,” Cameron told Sky Racing.

“We have had bad barriers. This is the first decent barrier we have had.

“He is a lovely natured horse, very easy to handle.

"We will make a decision about what is next for him over a nice bottle if wine tonight."

General Wolffe is the first winner from four to race out of the High Chaparral (IRE) mare Hypernova a half-sister to stakes-winner Montjee (Monjeu) out of a half-sister to VATC Caulfield Cup winner Imposera and AJC Spring Champion Stake winner Imprimatur.

General Wolffe is one of 29 live foals from the first crop of the multiple stakes-placed Wolf Cry. His only other runner to date is the talented Wolves who finished third in the Group II Blue Diamond Prelude.

Wolf Cry stands at Larneuk Stud for a fee of $3,300.
