Greg Polson previews Coffs Harbour Sunday July 23

Greg Polson - Sunday July 23

Punters who have collected on a John Sprague-trained galloper in his latest two wins shouldn't be perturbed by a wide barrier draw as he chases the hat-trick in the feature race at Coffs Harbour on Sunday.

Glitra has really found his mark racing on the Mid North Coast of NSW winning five of his last 10 starts and will be chasing three wins on the trot when the four-year-old lines up in the 2017 Aylward Auctioneers Sawtell Cup (1515m).

Glitra takes on open company for the first time and at first glance looks to face a task drawing a double-figure barrier at acceptance time but a closer look at the way the race shapes up would suggest Glitra has a high probability of finishing with the run of the race.

The Sawtell Cup looks devoid of genuine early speed with only Neurum Road drawn outside Glitra and possibly Malleable also starting wider on the track the only horses likely to work forward.

There is a real chance Glitra could finish with the run of the race settling second or third tracking the leaders despite what on paper looks an unfavourable barrier draw.

If that's the case the only question mark is whether Glitra has the class to win an open handicap and I reckon he is up to the task.
