Written Tycoon's Double You Tee Takes The Hobart Cup

Mark Smith - Sunday February 7

The sale-topper at the 2016 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale, the six-year-old Written Tycoon gelding Double You Tee returned home to capture Sunday’s $250,000 Group III Ladbrokes Hobart Cup (2400m).

Ridden by Jye McNeil for trainer Patrick Payne, Double You Tee took control of the race at the 200 metres and was never threatened.

The Tony and Calvin McEvoy trained Classic Weiwei (Shamus Award was one and a quarter lengths back in second with a further half-length back to the Archie Alexander-trained Barade (FR) (Havana Gold) in an all Victorian finish.

It was the first stakes success for Double You Tee who had run three seconds in five starts in Listed races.

In 2019 the son of Written Tycoon reeled off consecutive seconds in the Kyneton, Ballarat and Werribee Cups.

A $115,000 purchase by John Blacker from the Armidale Stud draft at the 2016 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale, Double You Tee advances his record to nine wins, thirteen seconds and four thirds from 41 starts with earnings of $779,665.

The daughter of Flying Spur has a filly by Impending in the Armidale Stud draft heading to the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Double You Tee becomes the 42nd stakes-winner for Written Tycoon who is currently second behind Not a Single doubt in the race for Champion Sire.
