Capitalist Filly Makes the Early Running at the Inglis Classic

Mark Smith - Sunday February 7

Unsurprisingly, it was Newgate Farm’s newly anointed frontrunner for champion 2yo sire, Capitalist, who made the early running as the Inglis Classic Yearling got underway on Sunday.

Following the breathtaking win of profiteer in yesterday’s $2 million Inglis Millennium, vendors were hoping for something special from the leading first season stallion.

Thirteen lots in B K Racing & Breeding shelled out $300,000 for Highgrove Stud’s Capitalist filly out of the winning Duporth mare Gone To Paris.(lot 13)

A three-time veteran of the sales ring, Gone To Paris was purchased by Paul Perry as a yearling in 2014 for $100,000. Three years later she caught the eye of Brett Howard’s Randwick Bloodstock at mixed sale at Scone where she was made $33,000.

That proved to be a shrewd purchase as Gone To Paris was knocked down to Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) for $230,000 at the 2018 National Broodmare Sale when carrying an Astern colt that was sold for $105,000 at the Classic Sale last year.
