Providing the perfect environment for growing thoroughbreds, Tamac Stud Farm is situated 4500 feet above sea level at Walcha with the cold climate offering so many benefits for the raising of quality horses.


Tamac Stud Farm is owned and run by Mark Taylor, an experienced horseman who was mentored by the great achiever in New Zealand Racing and founder of White Robe Lodge, Brian Anderton.

Like most people in the racing industry Mark began his career on the ground as a stable hand before his leadership qualities led to his role as stud groom.

White Robe Lodge is a proven thoroughbred nursery and stood the champion stallions Mellay (GB) and Noble Bijou (GB), whom Mark worked closely with, witnessing first hand the making of a champion stallion in New Zealand.

Mark returned after three years to for fill his own dreams and it was Tamac Stud Farm that would see him invest his time and energy for years to come.

“Tamac was founded in 1964 by my father Geoff Taylor and our first stallion was Rock Roi, who won 1971 Goodwood Cup in Great Britain,” said Mark Taylor.

“Over the next 40 years, a number of stallions stood at Tamac including Piazetta (full brother to Star Way), Mosgiel (by Noble Bijou) and Incognito (by Biscay).

“I took over the running of the farm in in 2014 on the passing of my dad and changed focus from standing stallions to reducing mare numbers and breeding 10 to 12 mares to commercial stallions to produce yearlings and weanlings for major sales such as Magic Millions and Inglis Classic.”

Tamac Stud Farm remains a family run business producing horses that have great bone and a great appetite.

“We often have trainers come back after buying a yearling saying they have never had a horse eat like them!” said Taylor.

“Clean and green, with no dust and disease, Walcha is known as the Pasture Wonder Land of Australia with 1000mm rain fall per year providing premium pasture.

“Horses graze on highly improved pastures consisting of Pierre grass, ryes, fescue and clovers giving us high quality feed for the growth and well being of our horses.”
