Inglis Classic Nicks that Click – The Road Less Travelled

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 1

The Inglis Classic Yearling Sale is always a treasure trove of opportunity and has produced superstars such as Classique Legend and Castelvecchio in recent years, so the quality is certainly there for those who seek it out and a good way to narrow the field and find some less obvious value can be found with some nicks investigation, so let’s take a look!

Click here for all the Breednet nicks information on Inglis Classic.

Nicconi is a very solid and popular sire that has always covered a broad spectrum of mares at Widden Stud by a wide range of sires so it’s no surprise to see him developing strong nicks with a number of our champion sires.

Nicconi with daughters of Zabeel has produced six winners from eight runners headed by stakes-winner Exclusive Lass, who won nearly $190,000.

There is one in the sale, Lot 721, a filly consigned by Murrulla Stud for Hidden Valley Thoroughbreds.

She is a half-sister to stakes-placed Tears of Jupiter from unraced Snow Blitz, a daughter of Golden Slipper winner Polar Success.

Nicconi with daughters of Lonhro has 100% strike rate producing five winners from five runners headed by stakes-placed Niccolance, who won over $260,000.

Lot 676 - click to see her page.

There is one in the sale, Lot 676 consigned by Bella Lodge, but prepared for sale by the Valiant Stud team and presented with their draft.

A lovely athletic filly, she is the first foal of lightly raced winning Lonhro mare Mrs Bloom, a daughter of Randwick stakes-place getter Audacious Amber, who is by champion sire Flying Spur, whose daughters have produced nine winners from 11 runners by Nicconi.

Nicconi with daughters of More Than Ready (USA) has produced 11 winners from 15 runners headed by Group III winner Hear the Chant, a winner of over $380,000, and Group II placed Shokora.

Lot 123 - click to see his page.

There is one in the sale, Lot 123 a colt from Middlebrook Valley Lodge, the first foal of Made for Glory, a daughter of stakes-placed import Poppet’s Treasure (GB).

Sebring has not had a lot of opportunity with mares by outstanding broodmare sire Hussonet (USA), but when he’s had the chance the results have been encouraging. The nick has produced six winners from 10 runners, but three of the winners are stakes horses in HK Group I winner Lucky Bubbles, Randwick stakes-winner Indy Car and stakes-placed Huntly Castle.

Lot 83 - click to see his page.

There is one in the sale, Lot 83, from Highgrove Stud in Queensland, a colt from metro winner Lady Antebellum, whose only foal to race is a winner.

The family features Group I winners Bluebird the Word, Porto Roca, Monterosso, Silent Sedition and Queensland cult hero The Harrovian.

Written Tycoon relocated to Arrowfield Stud last year so will have covered plenty of mares by Redoute’s Choice last spring and the nick is already delivering impressive stats with 20 winners from 22 runners headed by Group III winner Teleplay and it’s worth noting his superstar 2YO Enthaar is from a daughter of Redoute’s Choice’s top class son Not a Single Doubt.

Lot 153 - click to see his page.

There is one in the sale bred this way and that’s Lot 153, a colt offered by Woodside Park. He is the first foal of four time metro winner Miss Ballantine, who comes from the family of Group I winner Alverta.

Star Witness has hit a purple patch over the summer and has a very good strike rate with mares by Not a Single Doubt, the nick running at six winners from six runners, so 100% success. Those winners are headed by Group II placed Amish Boy, a winner of over $670,000 and stakes-placed She’s Our Star.

Lot 375 - click to see his page.

There is one in the sale bred this way and it’s Lot 375 from B2B Thoroughbreds, a colt from metro winner Themis, who comes from the family of Group I winner Regal Cheer.

Top class Victorian based sire Street Boss (USA) has only one entry in the sale and he’s bred on a nick that holds plenty of promise. Street Boss with daughters of champion sire Redoute’s Choice has produced seven winners from 10 runners headed by this season’s 2YO stakes-winner Anamoe, Group III placed Valaquenta and good Melbourne metro winner Grey Street, who is a full brother to the colt below.

Lot 268 - click to see his page.

Consigned by Riversdale as Lot 268, the grey colt is the fifth foal of Renaka, who has had four foals to race and all winners!

Footnote: Street Boss’s sire Street Cry has a seriously good nick with Redoute’s Choice mares, that nick producing 91% winners to runners with 31 winners from 34 runners including five stakes-winners headed by Group I winners Trekking and Stay With Me as well as last Saturday’s G2 Expressway Stakes winner Savatiano.
