Group I Success for Run Fox Run

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 30

Five year-old Australian Foxwedge mare Run Fox Run has long promised to win a Group I in South Africa and  she achieved the feat at Kenilworth on Saturday with a blazing victory in the Group I Cape Flying Championship (1000m).

The Brett Crawford trained mare took command of the race under Anton Marcus and powered to the line to win by three-quarters of a length in 57.74 seconds.

A two time stakes-winner previously and Group I placed, Run Fox Run runs for Ridgemont Stud and has the overall record of eight wins and three placings from 11 starts.

Bred by Mill Park in partnership, she was a $420,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Craig Roscoe and Brett Crawford from the Mill Park draft making her the most expensive yearling by her sire sold at that sale.

Run Fox Run is a half-sister to stakes-winner Guard of Honour and is the best of four winners from General Nediym mare Victory Cry, a full sister to stakes-winner Victory Chant and half-sister to stakes-winner Reldas from the family of Group I winner Serious Speed.

Victory Cry has no yearling for the sales this year, but does have a colt foal by Written Tycoon and was covered by Deep Field last spring.

Run Fox Run is the fourth Group I winner for Foxwedge, who stands in Victoria at Woodside Park Stud. The Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock stood at a fee of $11,000 last year.
