Stylish New Zealand Winner for Capitalist

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 30

Newgate Farm’s young gun sire Capitalist added a new winner to his tally in New Zealand on Saturday with an easy victory for promising filly Mozzarella.

Trained by Nick Wigley and Kayla Milnes, Mozzarella was having her third start in the 800m open juvenile event and found it an easier task than her last start fourth to Avonallo in the Listed Welcome Stakes at Riccarton.

She cruised clear to beat the hot favourite Mackenzie Lad by a length and a quarter.

Mozzarella is a homebred for Inglewood Stud, who bought her dam Parmalove carrying the Capitalist filly in utero for $230,000 from the Willow Park draft at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

A two time winning half-sister by Snitzel to stakes-winners Liesele and Loved Up, Parmalove was back in Australia last spring to be covered by Capitalist’s sire Written Tycoon after producing a colt by US Navy Flag (USA).

Capitalist sired his fourth winner in New Zealand on Saturday.

Mozzarella is the fourth winner for Capitalist and is his first in New Zealand, although he is also the sire of the very talented maiden Sneaky Shark, who was second in the Karaka Million.
