Mare With Hot Pedigree Booked to Fiorente

Media Release - Tuesday September 12
Group III SAJC Sires Produce winner SILENT SURROUND made headlines on Saturday with her first foal SILENT COMMAND taking out the Listed Morphettville Guineas in South Australia.

FiorenteThe lightly raced Silent Command made it two for two over the 1600m distance, having also won over the mile at Morphettville back in May, for his trainer Nick Smart.

"We've always had an opinion of him. He's had a bit of bad luck but it was fantastic to get the result today. He's a lovely horse," said Smart.

The colt will race next in the Group 2$200,000 Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 29 and he has entries in both the Group 1 features at 'The Heath'- the Caulfield
Guineas (1600m) and Caulfield Classic (2000m).

Bred by Don Moyle, Silent Command, is a product of Silent Surround, who was a Group 3 winner of 3 races and also placed in the traditional VRC Oaks lead ups - the Group 2 Edward Manifold (1600m) and Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m).

FIORENTE has been extremely popular with breeders, covering over 400 mares in his first 3 completed seasons at stud.

The 'Fast Stayer' is synonymous with the Melbourne Cup, however it was his turn of foot that enabled him to be Group 1 placed over 1400m, a Group 2 winner over the mile, placed in a Cox Plate and also win an Australian Cup, under the guidance of Gai Waterhouse.

"Monsun has been an absolute sire sensation, and the fact he is responsible for 3 of the last 4 Melbourne Cup winners indicates to all that the breed prospers under Australian racing conditions," said Nominations and Sales Manager, Phil Marshall.

"Fiorente has covered mares with staying pedigrees, milers and plenty of sharp ones too, so we are looking forward to seeing what the future holds for him… it really is exciting", added Marshall.

There is plenty of quality about Fiorente's book this season, with mares such as the aforementioned SILENT SURROUND, DETOX (a stakes placed half-sister to Group 1 winner ALCOPOP), stakes placed BEAMING and Group 1 winner SHE'S ARCHIE, among a host of high class mares to be covered by the stallion in 2017.

FIORENTE will have his first 2YO runners for the 2017/18 season and stands at SUN STUD Victoria for an advertised fee of $17,600 inc GST.
