Saffiano Tops Inglis Digital Late January Sale

Media Release - Wednesday January 27

A record six lots realised $100,000 or more in tonight’s Inglis Digital January (Late) Online Auction, continuing a spectacular start to the new year for the popular and successful platform.

Saffiano sold for $290,000.

Racehorses Saffiano ($290,000), Oregon ($125,000), Vanderland ($120,000), Campese ($105,000) and Colonel ($105,000) along with broodmare Phoenix Park ($230,000) all provided outstanding six-figure returns for their owners.

Individual entries aside, the Rangal Park dispersal was also a success, grossing $324,250 for owner Eric Buttler.

Overall, the January (Late) auction grossed $2,660,000 – the 21st consecutive Inglis Online sale to gross $1m or more - with a clearance rate of 85%.

The sale’s top lot was the Aquis Farm-offering Saffiano (More Than Ready), a two-time winner from seven starts.

Aquis’ Shane McGrath described Saffiano as “a quality purchase for his new owners’’.

“He’s lightly raced and has proven already he knows how to win races so I wish his new connections all the best with him. They’ll have a lot of fun,’’ McGrath said.

“He contested a Group 1 at his fourth start last year, that’s the type of horse he is but Aquis is a company that, as part of their business model, trades horses all the time and we want to continue to be known as a vendor that offers fit, reliable, sound horses to the tried-horse market and Saffiano is certainly that.

“It’s so easy to trade these days with Inglis Digital, Nick (Melmeth) and the team do a great job and Aquis loves supporting it.’’

Heinrich Bloodstock went to $125,000 to secure the third-top lot Oregon, a Zoustar colt which was offered by Newgate Farm (as agent).

Hoss Heinrich said the first thing the stable would do will be to geld the lightly-raced 3YO.

“The gelding process will obviously make him focus more and make him more of a racehorse hopefully but he’s got plenty of upside, he’s only three and he seems to have plenty of ability so hopefully we can get him to win a few races up here in Brisbane,’’ Heinrich said.

“The Inglis Online platform, it’s a great way of selling horses, plenty of people are using it, that’s for sure.’’

Vanderland – the fourth-top lot - sold to A Value Consulting Limited for $120,000 and the Hawkes Racing-offered 3YO will do his future racing in Hong Kong.

Dr Alan Lee, director of A Value Consulting, purchased the Vancouver 3YO on behalf of a HK-based owner.

“The owner has a HKJC import horse permit and said he would like a lower-budget option. We advised him to purchase a potential horse and race to fulfill HKJC's performance requirement (ie HKJC rating 68) and we believed that Vanderland can be qualified in a few races,’’ Dr Lee said.

“We are loyal bidders on Inglis Online and we have had several successful purchases including Aussie and Dance which are both now qualified for Hong Kong.’’

Entries are now open for the Inglis Digital February (Early) Online Auction, which will take place from February 5-10.

Entries close on Wednesday February 3.
