Flashy Rubick Sprinter on Track for Stakes Success

Gerald Ryan always maintains Rubick was one of the fastest horses he has trained and he has high regard for his talented son The Face , who returned to the winner’s list at Randwick on Saturday.

A brilliant winner on debut in July last year, The Face has been stakes-placed twice since then from just three more starts, most recently finishing second to quality filly Forbidden Love in the Listed Gosford Guineas.

Dropped back to a Benchmark 78 against older horses over 1100m, The Face led all the way for James Innes Jr and was strong to the line winning by a length and a half.

Stakes goals lie ahead for The Face with the Group III ATC Eskimo Prince Quality in two weeks time a possibility.

“If he does really well we might stick him up to the Eskimo Prince in a couple of weeks time. He will have a fitness edge on the horses who will be resuming in it,” said Ryan, who trains in partnership with Sterling Alexiou.

“Or he might just have a freshen up and come back later in the carnival for a race like the Group II Arrowfield Stakes.

“He is as effective on heavy ground as he is on good ground so he is pretty versatile.”

The Face has two wins and three placings from five starts and has banked over $165,000 in prizemoney.

Bred by Steve Smith’s Noorilim Park and retained to race, The Face is the fifth winner from six foals to race from Crazy Quality, a winning daughter of stakes-winner Crazy Neaux from the family of Group II winner La Bella Dame and Group III winner Damselfly.

Crazy Quality has a yearling filly to follow also by Rubick, who has 31 entries catalogued for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, click to see them.
