Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 21

A big set of trials at Randwick on Thursday morning included two for Group performers won by Splintex and Mizzy, but also six heats for juveniles with some interesting winners including a well bred colt by Not a Single Doubt, whose yearlings sold like hotcakes at the Magic Millions last week.

In the juvenile heats, the horse that caught our eye was the Richard and Michael Freedman trained Not a Single Doubt colt Single Honor, who was having his second trial and showed good pace to take up the lead.

Allowed to travel just off the fence by Tommy Berry, he had expensive Deep Field colt Bullpen move through along the inside of him, but when asked to get serious at the finish by Tommy Berry, Single Honor stuck to his task to win by a long head.

Given the prices being paid for Not A Single Doubt colts last week at the Gold Coast, Single Honor looks to have been very well bought, snapped up by Mitchell Bloodstock for just $240,000 from the Newgate Draft at Magic Millions last year.

Single Honor as a yearling

A half-brother to stakes-placed Air to Air from Group III placed Honor Net, a daughter of Group I winner Honor Lap, Single Honor is bred on the same cross as dual Group I winner and promising sire Extreme Choice as well as Group winners Gunnison and Selenia.

The other 2YO heat winners were Verne (Snitzel), Syracuse (Sebring) Mishka Magic (Mikki Isle (Jpn), Bourbon Flyer (Flying Artie) and Kalashnikov (Capitalist), who showed a good turn of foot and looked sharp for his return.
