Big Payday for Eurozone Mare Krone

Media Release - Saturday January 16

The decision by connections to defer Krone’s transition to the breeding barn paid dividends on Saturday when the talented mare claimed a last-stride win in Saturday’s $1 million TAB Magic Millions Fillies and Mares (1300m).

Ryan Maloney plotted an inside path from near-last on the five-year-old and, when presented in clear air in the final 200m, she was able to overhaul Godolphin mare Athiri.

The win was Krone’s second victory since Roll The Dice Racing opted to transfer her from the care of Caulfield trainer Mick Price to Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan.

In all, Krone has won four races and more than $960,000 from her 24 starts.

Maloney was full of praise for Krone after the surprise victory at $31.

“She jumped a lot better than I expected and I was spewing I had to give up that advantage early,” Maloney said.

“Coming to the corner, I had a lap full of horse and I wanted to edge out to the middle of the track but they kept coming out so I had no choice but to do what I did.

“With that cut in the ground, she really found that line.

“It was an enormous performance.”

Bred by Bell View Park in partnership, the daughter of Eurozone was purchased by Roll The Dice Racing for $120,000 at the Gold Coast 2YO in Training Sale. She was earlier sold for $30,000 at the National Weanling Sale and $60,000 at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The result continued a great run of Magic Millions Raceday success for Roll The Dice Racing, which won the Guineas in 2016 with Mahuta and the Maiden in 2020 with He’ll Haunt Us.

The Victorian-based syndicator was again active on the Gold Coast this week with an involvement in several purchases including Lot 431, a Shalaa filly and Lot 726, a colt by Capitalist.
