As we prepare for Friday’s fourth session of the Magic Millions Yearling Sale it’s worth taking a look at our first season sires to see where they sit in the pecking order.

Almanzor

Cambridge Stud shuttler Almanzor (Fr) smashed it right out of the park with a colt from Lazumba that made $800,000 for Bhima Thoroughbreds when bought by Ultra T'Bred Racing P/L/Baystone Farm.

The Champion European 3YO of 2016, Almanzor has made everyone sit up and take notice at this sale and will make plenty of buyers start looking very hard at Karaka Book 1 where he has over 40 yearlings catalogued.

Dogged by fertility issues, Newgate Farm’s Menari had just 19 foals in his first crop and three of them have sold here at an average $200,000.

His top seller was a filly from Ben’s Duchess (USA) that made $260,000 when bought by James Bester Bloodstock/Vantage Thoroughbreds and is a virtual female version of her sire.

Menari had just 28 foals born last spring and covered a small book of 25 mares.

Hellbent cracked $4million in turnover with his 22 yearlings sold so far highlighted by a filly from Jalan Jalan that made $500,000 for Yarraman Park when bough by Heinrich Bloodstock.
