First Australian Winner for Maurice

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 14

Arrowfield Stud’s Japanese shuttle sire Maurice (Jpn) became the latest first season sire to post his first Australian winner with a debut victory at Eagle Farm on Thursday for promising gelding Balmaurice.

The Rex Lipp trained juvenile was friendless with punters, but dominated his rivals to win by more than two lengths in a commanding performance.

Not offered at auction, Balmaurice is the fifth winner from six to race from Bal du Siecle (GB), an imported Danehill Dancer mare from the family of Australian Horse of the Year Might and Power and Group I winners Mosheen and Lucky Owners.

Maurice

Maurice remained in Japan last year due to the pandemic and sired his first stakes-winner there last weekend, you can read about it here.
