Waikato Stud’s champion sire Savabeel has been busy adding new stakes-winners to his tally over the holiday period and did it again on Sunday with promising three year-old Milford, who is the 20th stakes-winner for his sire bred from a daughter of O’Reilly.

A $360,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase, Milford won the Listed Gingernuts Salver at just his fifth start and will now progress towards the Group I New Zealand Derby. Read more about him here.



The Savabeel cross over O’Reilly mares has produced 102 winners from 136 starters, that’s over 75% winners to runners and the 20 stakes-winners bred this way include Group I winners are Costume, Diademe, Savaria and Embellish as well as rising star three year-old Mo’Unga.

The stakes-winner to runner rate of nearly 15% is above Savabeel’s overall stakes-winner to runner rate of 11%.

Savabeel has had 13 stakes-winners this season and six are from O’Reilly mares while a further three are from mares that have O’Reilly blood.

Three-quarter brother-in-blood to Group II winner Do Ra Mi and is from a full sister to Hong Kong stakes-winner Unique Jewellery and half-sister to Group I winner Marju Snip. This family also features Group I winners Nadeem and Candide.

Lot 201 Colt Savabeel x Villifye – Waikato Stud

Full brother to three winners and is from Group II winner Villifye, a half-sister to Group I Queensland Oaks winner Miss Keepsake and this year’s VRC Oaks place-getter Salto Angel.

Lot 343 Colt Savabeel x Dating – Waikato Stud

Full brother to three winners including Group II place Date Night from multiple Group III winner Dating.

Lot 419 Colt Savabeel x Girls on Top – Waikato Stud

Full brother to a winner and is from an eight time winning half-sister to stakes-winner Currency.

Lot 422 Filly Savabeel x Glee – Waikato Stud

First foal of a sister to stakes-placed Symphonic and Tralee Chorus from the family of 2020 Group I NZ 2,000 Guineas winner Aegon and Group I winners Daffodil and Good Faith.

Half-brother to Melbourne metro winner Ocean Heart from an unraced half-sister to Group III winner Residential from stakes-winner Metropolitan.

Three-quarter brother-in-blood to Group II winner Queen of Diamonds from Group III placed Lovetessa. From the Tristalove branch of the iconic eight Carat family.

Second foal of a winning sister stakes-winner to Wolfwhistle from dual Group I winner Legs. The family has also produced O’Reilly’s Group I winners Guyno and Tiptronic.

Sister-in-blood to Group III winner Love Affair and is fourth foal from an unraced sister to Group I placed stakes-winner Salsa and half-sister to Group III winner Somepin Anypin and stakes-winner Rules of Engagement.

Lot 544 Filly Savabeel x Miss Opulence – Monovale Farm

Full sister to the colt that topped the 2020 Ready to Run Sale when fetching $700,000 last month. She is the second foal of an unraced half-sister to multiple Group I winners Sir Slick and Puccini.

Lot 548 Colt Savabeel x Miss Selby – Landsdowne Park

Second foal of Group III winner Miss Selby, who was also second in the Group I New Zealand Oaks.

Online bidding services will be available for all registered buyers who are unable to physically attend Karaka 2021, with all yearlings available for on-farm inspections and New Zealand-based agents available to inspect on behalf.
