Second Winner for Shalaa

Mark Smith - Saturday January 9

Purchased for just $21,000 as a weanling, the Shalaa (IRE) filly Saasmit showed she is a filly with a future following a dominant win at her career debut in the Irongate Plate (1000m) at Murray Bridge on Saturday.

Ridden by Jessica Eaton, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained filly came with a barnstorming finish to defeat the I’m All The Talk gelding Garrire by three lengths with the Headwater filly Lamoree one and a quarter lengths back in third.

Purchased by Melbourne Bloodstock for $21,000 out of the Vinery Stud draft at the 2019 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, Saasmit is the first foal to race out of the imported Mr Greeley (USA) mare Touchy Greeley (IRE).

Saasmit was a $21,000 Magic Millions Weanling

The lightly raced Touchy Greeley (IRE) is a half-sister to stakes-winner The Bogberry (Hawk Wing) and Group III winner Liscanna (Sadler’s Wells) the dam of Brave Anna (War Front) the Champion 2YO Filly in Europe in 2016, and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Hit It A Bomb (War Front).
