Magic Millions Nicks Information

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday January 5

The nicks information now incorporated into all Breednet race results has proven a most popular innovation and that data has now been applied to the 2021 Magic Millions catalogue to provide a quick reference for yearling buyers looking for ways to increase their odds of purchasing a winner.

All lots bred on a nick that has produced at least one winner are included and the data is correct for Australasia, however nicks that include international results will be incomplete, but nevertheless offer a good guide for success.

Click here to investigate the world of Magic Millions nicks, where you will find the obvious, but also a few that may surprise and always remember, there is no unsuccessful nick, it just hasn’t worked yet!

An example of incomplete data is the nick for champion sires Fastnet Rock and Galileo, which we all know is a good one in any case and was highlighted last spring when Personal won the Group I VRC Oaks to become the eighth Group I winner and 20th stakes-winner bred this way.

This nick runs at 22% stakes-winners to runners, which means you are going to look very hard at every horse bred on this nick.

There is just one horse in the sale bred this way and she’s going to be a showstopper for Strawberry Hill Stud.

Lot 245 - click for the page.

Lot 245 is a sister-in-blood to Personal being by Fastnet Rock from the winning Galileo mare Dreams and Wishes, a full sister to stakes-winner Personify, the dam of Personal.

This filly is the fourth foal of her dam, but it’s the first mating to Fastnet Rock and interestingly Dreams and Wishes has gone back to Fastnet Rock in the two years since, so this filly must have pleased everyone at the stud.

Time is running out to buy a Not a Single Doubt and Bhima Thoroughbreds will present Lot 909, the only filly in this sale bred on a very successful nick being from More Than Ready (USA) mare True Heart.

Lot 909 - click for the page.
This nick runs at nearly 18% stakes-winners to runners with 22 winners from 28 runners and five of them stakes-winners headed by dual Group I winner Miracles of Life.

She comes with a big pedigree as True Heart is from the True Blonde branch of the Easy Date family that has produced Golden Slipper winner Forensics, so she also has a double cross of Easy Date 3 x 3.

Champion sire Snitzel has a lot of good nicks with a variety of sires, but like his father Redoute’s Choice he has a great record with mares by Last Tycoon (IRE).

The nick has 100% winners to runners with 11 winners from 11 runners and two are the stakes-winners Wandjina (Group I) and Dances on Stars (Group III), so 18% stakes-winners to runners.

Lot 815 - click for the page.

There is one in the sale bred this way and it’s Baramul Stud’s Lot 815, the full sister to group III placed Philizzy, a a Snitzel filly from Sovereign Duchess, the dam of nine winners from 11 to race her best the Group II winner Sovereign Nation.

A very similar nick is Snitzel over mares by Last Tycoon’s champion son O’Reilly and it too has 100% winners to runners with nine from nine and two are stakes-winners Splintex (Group II) and Snitzkraft.

Lot 115 - click for the page.

There is one in the sale and it’s Widden Stud’s Lot 115, the first foal of Group II placed stakes-winner Bonny O’Reilly, a colt by Snitzel.
