Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 4

There were seven heats for juveniles at Rosehill on Monday morning with most interest surrounding the appearance of leading Magic Millions contender She’s All Class and the full brother to Golden Slipper winner Estijaab.

A brilliant last start winner of the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic, I Am Invincible filly She’s All Class was given a very quiet trial by Kerrin McEvoy, who never moved on her the entire way.

She settled kindly behind the leaders and surged into second beaten half a length by another I Am Invincible filly in Total Babe, who was third in the Group III Gimcrack Stakes at the start of spring for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

Chris Waller might have had a few issues with his other Magic Millions contenders Shaquero and Ranch Hand, but She’s All Class appears to be spot on.

The quickest of the heats this morning was won by unraced Capitalist filly Satin Ribbons, who was having her first public outing for Peter and Paul Snowden and bolted in to win by five lengths in 53.92 seconds.

She was a bit keen early for Robbie Dolan and will need to learn to relax a bit more come raceday, but Satin Ribbons was in a class of her own at the finish, although the Waterhouse -Bott prepared Savabeel filly Tilianam looks a classy filly in the making.

Satin Ribbons is a homebred for Mrs Belinda Bateman and is the third foal from her former brilliant two year-old Satin Shoes, who has done a great job at stud as those first two foals are stakes-winner Satin Slipper and metro winner Satin Socks, so it’s not hard to see Satin Ribbons making it three winners on the trot for her.

Probably the most impressive heat winner was Golden Slipper winner Estijaab’s little brother Remarque, who made it two trial wins from his only two outings with a thoroughly dominant display for Team Hawkes.

Ridden patiently early by Tommy Berry, the Snitzel colt  showed a dazzling turn of foot over the final furlong and a half to win by nearly four lengths with the last 600m of this trial the fastest of all the juvenile heats at 34.71 seconds.

Retained to race by Arrowfield and Katsumi Yoshida, Remarque is the sixth foal from Group I winner Response, who has had four foals to race and three are winners headed by Estijaab.

She produced another colt by Snitzel in 2020 and was covered by him again.
