Blue Collar Soxagon Ready to Mix it with the Millionaires at the Gold Coast

Mark Smith - Saturday January 2

The product of a $600 mare and a fee service, Soxagon took his earnings to just shy of $500,000 while earning a wildcard into the $1 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) when capturing the $200,000 Magic Millions The Buffering (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Soxagon too strong in the Buffering (Racing QLD)

Ridden by Bobby El-Issa for trainer Mark Currie, the last start Listed Lough Neagh Stakes winner defeated the fast-finishing Niccanova (Nicconi) by one and a quarter lengths with Emerald Kingdom (Bryannbo's Gift) a short-neck back in third.

Bred by and part-owned by Brian Burke, Soxagon advanced his record to eight wins, five seconds and one third from 22 starts with earnings of $492,375.

Burke purchased Soxagon’s dam Strike On Goal for $600 out of the Patinack Farm draft at the 2013 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. He sent the daughter of Van Nistelrooy (USA) to the little known Fastnet Rock stallion Rocker after a friend organised a free service.

A half-sister to Group II placed Dark Bishop (Pentire), Strike on Goal is out of a half-sister to the Group III VRC St Leger winner Desert Clearance.

Strike on Goal has not been covered since foaling Soxagon, and was dropped from the official record in 2018.

The winner of five races in Brisbane and twice Group III placed when trained by Kelly Schweida, Rocker is out of a half-sister to stakes-winner I Got Chills.

He stood his last season in 2015 leaving eight foals.
