Not A Single Doubt's Queen Of Wizardry Heads to MM

Mark Smith - Saturday January 2

There was very little money for the Not A Single Doubt debutant Queen Of Wizardry in Saturday's Magic Millions Hcp for two-year-olds at Eagle Farm, but she blasted a field of Magic Millions hopefuls out of the water in a last to first performance.

Queen Of Wizardry (Magic Millions)

Ridden by Stephanie Thornton, the Annabel Neasham-trained filly was still standing the field up a start at the 300m. She powered home down the outside to defeat the Shooting To Win gelding Win Burn by a long-neck with the odds-on favourite, Fastnet Rock colt Ranch Hand a long-head back in third.

Thornton said it was onwards and upwards to the $2million Magic Millions 2yo Classic at the Gold Coast on January 16.

“She’s got a very sharp turn of foot, and the 1200m suited her today,” Thornton said.

“All credit to Annabel and her team.

“She was very professional and knew what it was all about. The blinkers were a good addition and kept her mind on the job.

“We were in a bit of trouble at the 300m, but when she saw a bit of daylight she came down the outside and nothing was going to beat her. Fingers crossed for the Magic Millions.”

Queen Of Wizardry was a $400,000 Gold Coast Yearling

Queen Of Wizardry was a $400,000 purchase by Aquis Farm out of the Tyreel Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She is the first winner from two to race out of the handy Encosta de Lago mare Miss Hufflepuff a sister to Liberator the Champion Stayer in Hong Kong in 2011-12, and to the stakes-placed Pink Siris the dam of the Group II BRC Doomben Roses winner Etana (Shamus Award).

Purchased by Belmont B'stock (FBAA)/Tyreel Stud for $470,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale when in foal to Exceed And Excel, Miss Hufflepuff will have a Sebring filly in the Tyreel Stud draft heading to the upcoming Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Miss Hufflepuff has a filly foal by The Autumn Sun and was covered by The Everest winner Yes Yes Yes in 2020.

Tyreel will offer this Sebring half-sister to Queen Of Wizardry at the Magic Millions

What Stallions Can Step Up in Hong Kong?
The Hong Kong racing season is over for another year, so a look at their sire tables by earnings and winners is always interesting and there is no surprise at the top with now pensioned Deep Field claiming his fourth consecutive champion sire title, but given he is now out of the picture the big question is what sires will replace him?

Breeding To Win – Crystal Ball – New Season 3YOs to Follow
Who are we highlighting this week? - Analysis of the G1 winning 3YO’s for this season has made us realise how many horses on this list took giant strides from two to three, so we are looking into the crystal ball to find some juveniles we believe could end next season as G1 performers if not G1 winners.
Another Aussie Stakes-Winner for Lope de Vega
It’s just as well Australian owners are keen on bringing in imported tried horses to Australia or the $200,000 Listed Grafton Cup (2350m) on Thursday would have looked a very skinny event, but as it happened there was a promising young stayer on top in Don Diego de Vega (Fr).
