Nicks that Click – Karaka 2021 –Savabeel the Superstar

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 27

Waikato Stud’s champion sire Savabeel was on fire on Boxing Day reeling off two new stakes-winners in Brando and Amarelinha plus a Group I quinella courtesy of Concert Hall and Supera and while we’ve talked about the success of the Savabeel x O’Reilly previously, the nick that produced Concert Hall is also one well worth investigating.

Winner of the Group I Zabeel Classic, Concert Hall is bred on the Savabeel x Carnegie nick which has produced four stakes-winners from just 17 runners, the stats running at 82% winners to runners and 23.5% stakes-winners to runners.

Sadly, there are no yearlings catalogued for Karaka bred this way, but there is plenty of opportunity to be found in the Savabeel x O’Reilly nick.

Both Amerlinha and Brando are bred this way, the former from a daughter of O’Reilly and the latter has a grand-dam by him.

The Savabeel cross over O’Reilly mares has produced 101 winners from 136 starters, that’s over 74% winners to runners and the 19 stakes-winners bred this way include Group I winners are Costume, Diademe, Savaria and Embellish as well as rising star three year-old Mo’Unga.

The stakes-winner to runner rate of 14% is above Savabeel’s overall stakes-winner to runner rate of 10.8%.

There are also an additional seven stakes-winners like Brando that are by Savabeel and feature O’Reilly further back in their female pedigree and they include his Group I winners Probabeel and Savvy Coup.

The following lots in Karaka Book 1 and 2 are sired by Savabeel from O’Reilly mares.
