One to Watch – Sunshine Coast

Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 27

Lyndhurst Stud’s Better than Ready is setting a brisk pace leading the Australian two year-old sires list by winners and he added a seventh winner on Sunday with an impressive winner at Sunshine Coast that is Magic Millions eligible.

The Kelly Schweida trained colt Headlander was third at his first run back in October behind Princess Bojack at Eagle Farm and confirmed that potential when resuming from a spell to score an easy victory.

He led all the way to win the 1000m maiden by three lengths as a short priced favourite.

Headlander yearling

A $60,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Lucas Bloodstock draft for Jill Barbagallo, Headlander is the second winner from Exultation, a placed half-sister by Lonhro to Group II placed Alegria from Group II winner Pure Joy.

Eureka Stud will offer her yearling half-sister by Press Statement as Lot 801 at the 2021 Inglis Classic.

A noted sire of two year-old winners Better than Ready is leading the Australian sires list for two year-old winners ahead of champion sires Fastnet Rock, I Am Invincible and Written Tycoon, his winners headed by unbeaten two time stakes-winner Alpine Ridge – read about him here.

All sires with two or more 2YO winners.
