Nicks that Click – Karaka 2021 –One of the Best

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 20

This nick has become one of the best known and most successful in Australasia with an impressive 21% stakes-winners to runners and Karaka Book 1 features two youngsters bred this way and two more that are very close.

The 2020 Karaka Book 1 sale was topped by a Pierro colt from Redoute’s Choice colt mare Our Squeezer that made $900,000 for Westbury Stud.

Now named Postulate and placed in the care of Team Hawkes for Orbis Bloodstock, he’s a colt whose future will be followed with great interest given the astonishing strike rate for success of horses bred on the Pierro x Redoute’s Choice cross.

There have been 31 winners from 42 runners, which equates to nearly 74% winners to runners and those winners include nine stakes-winners headed by Group I stars Arcadia Queen, Regal Power and Levendi.

$3.9million earner Arcadia Queen is by Pierro from a daughter of Redoute's Choice.

Horses bred this way in Karaka Book 1 are listed below:

Lot 352 Colt Pierro x Dolmabache – Pencarrow Stud

From Group II winner Dolmabache, a full sister to Group III winner Pure Elegance from the famed family of Group I champions Ethereal and Darci Brahma.

Two more Pierro yearlings are from mares by grand-sons of Redoute’s Choice, this nick producing nine winners from 11 runners.

Lot 74 Filly Pierro x Rock Diva – Curraghmore

Second foal of Group I winner Rock Diva, a half-sister to Group I winner Shamrocker, Group II winner Bohemian Lily and stakes-winner Vernanme.
