Third Stakes Win for War Chant's Dance Music

Mark Smith - Saturday December 19

The Simon Miller-trained mare Dance Music threatened a return to her best when third in the AJ Scahill Stakes at her previous start, and to the punter's delight she led every step of the way in Saturday's Listed Agent Fresh-Starstruck Classic at Ascot.

Ridden by Brad Parnham, the 5yo daughter of War Chant (USA) defeated She's Alight (Tavistock) by a length with Naughty By Nature (Trade Fair) a short-half-head back in third.

It was the third stakes win for Dance Music advancing her record to 10 wins, three seconds and four thirds from 22 starts with earnings of $712,195.

"She was travelling easy; my only query was she overdoing it. But when he cranked her up before the turn, she clearly had a tankful of petrol," Miller said.

The leading trainer said he would consult with Parnham whether to keep Dance Music in training or send her for a spell.

"My gut feeling is a mile sees her out. I haven't got anything in mind for her now so it will probably be a break. She will be getting up in the ratings now. We were thrown into this race, and she ran true to form.”

A homebred for Neven Botica and Matthew Sandblom, Dance Music is the first foal of her dam Fast Flowing (Dubawi).

A winner at Ascot, Fast Flowing was a $1000,000 Karaka yearling purchase by the late Bart Cummings. Her dam Deutsche (Quest for Fame) is a Sydney-winning sister to the Listed MRC Debutant Stakes The Rhine.

Fast Flowing has a 2yo filly by Bull Point who was purchased for $75,000 out of the Kingstar Farm draft at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

The daughter of Dubawi has a yearling colt by Deep Field and was not covered last year.
