Dawn Approach Colt Paulele Keeps His Record at a Perfect Two for Two

Mark Smith - Saturday December 19

A hugely impressive winner when on debut at Moonee Valley on November 28, Godolphin's Dawn Approach (IRE) colt Paulele made the trip to Sydney for Saturday's Precise Air Hcp (1200m) where he kept his record perfect with the minimum of fuss.

So easy for Paulele (Steve Hart)

The handsome chestnut sweated freely in the saddling enclosure, was of little concern to punters that backed him into a short-priced favourite. It did not affect his performance, leading at every call under Kerrin McEvoy to defeat the $1,050,000 I Am Invincible debutant Zarastro by one and a quarter lengths with the Pride of Dubai filly Forzanini a length back in third.

Stable representative Darren Beadman said the stable had a high opinion of the James cummings-trained son of Dawn Approach (IRE).

"He's a lovely young colt, superbly bred, well educated and handled," Beadman said.

"He arrived in Sydney late last week from Melbourne. They did a great job with him down there. It was a professional effort from him today. He controlled the speed, and when Kerrin asked him for an effort, he hit the line nicely.

A nice horse on a bleak day Paulele and Kerrin McEvoy (Steve Hart)

"He took advantage of the inside gate. The rail is a big advantage for two-year-olds. He is a very versatile colt being able to go left and right at such an early part of his career.

Beadman said there was a lot to like from the debut win at Moonee Valley.

"It was only a 1000m but that race over the past few years has produced horses like Yes Yes Yes and Written By. Hopefully, he can step up to the plate and go on to bigger and better things."

A three-quarter brother to the Group III VRC Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes winner Montsegur (New Approach) and a half-brother to Group III ATC Canonbury Stakes winner Tessera (Medaglia d'Oro), Paulele is the sixth winner from eight to race out of the Flying Spur mare Chatoyant.

A daughter of the blue hen Decidety (Last Tycoon), Chatoyant is a half-sister to Group 1 VRC Myer Classic winner Bonaria (Redoute's Choice), Group III winner Time Out (Rory's Jester) and the Group III winner and Group 1-placed Legally Bay (Snippets) who is the dm of Merchant Navy and Jolie Bay.

Widden Stud will offer an I Am Invincible filly at the upcoming Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Chatoyant foaled an Exosphere filly on November 5.
