Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 18

Three heats for two year-olds at Rosehill on Friday morning all held interest with one of the three winners being the full brother to Golden Slipper winner Estijaab.

Trained by Team Hawkes as was his Slipper winning sister, Remarque was retained to race by Arrowfield and Katsumi Yoshida and looks to have plenty of ability.

The Snitzel colt did everything right for Tommy Berry to work forward and take the lead and although green when asked to lengthen, still did enough to win by three-quarters of length in the quickest time of the three heats for juveniles.

He’ll take a lot of benefit from this first outing, so it will be interesting to watch his next trial or possibly race.

Remarque is the sixth foal from Group I winner Response, who has had four foals to race and three are winners.

She produced another colt this spring by Snitzel and was covered by him again.

Team Hawkes also scored with Frosted (USA) colt Kooled, who settled back in the field and was eye-catching in finding path between runners to surge home and win by half a length.

It was also his first trial and he looks to have a bright future.

Retained to race by his breeders, Kooled is a half-brother to Group II winner Dawn Dawn.

The third heat for fillies featured the Hawkes trained Vancouver filly Vandoula Lass, who made a big impression winning on debut at Sandown on December 2.

This Magic Millions eligible filly led all the way and was held together to run second behind Not a Single Doubt filly Mura Mura, who was last seen finishing third to Sneaky Five in the $1million Golden Gift.

Prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, Mura Mura has a three-quarter brother by Redoute’s Choice headed to Magic Millions for Arrowfield, who will be hoping Mura Mura can step up and make her mark in the the $2million MM 2YO Classic.
