Turbo Charged Written Tycoon

Mark Smith - Saturday December 12

Just a cursory glance at Breednet’s leading sire of winners over the past week gives reason to believe that Written Tycoon is like an unstoppable train as he eats into the $2million lead set up by Not A Single Doubt for Champion Australian Sire honours.

Written Tycoon may well have the best two-year-old in the country in the exciting Enthaar and the leading three-year-old in the Caulfield Guineas and Golden Rose hero Ole Kirk. However, he seems to add a potential topliner every other day.

Falling into that category is the Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes-trained Yulong Turbo.

Now, this two-year-old colt is big, and I mean really big.

His hulking frame was a menacing presence to the three juveniles who took him on in the oping race over 1050 metres at Morphettville on Saturday.

The Yulong Farm homebred looked quite content in lobbing along in last place and seemed quite reluctant when Barend Vorster attempted to extract him from behind runners.

Once he achieved that Yulong Turbo extended impressively to defeat the Divine Prophet filly Bleriot by one and a half lengths with the Astern colt Own The Night a length back in third.

It must have been an enormous relief for Yulong who invested a sale-topping $1,750,000 to secure Yulong Turbo’s dam Gregers at the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

A daughter of Commands, Gregers was a top mare for Lindsay Park. Her six wins included the Group II MRC Thousand Guineas, and she placed in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas and Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes on the way to banking $902,850.

A half-sister to the Group III winner Girl Guide (Churchill Downs), Gregers is out of the Canny Lad mare Satnav a sister to the dam of Group 1 Coolmore Classic heroine Ofcourseican (Mossman) and the South African Group 1 winner and leading sire Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready).

Yulong will consign a Snitzel filly out of Gregers to the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale beginning on January 12.

If you are shopping for a Written Tycoon at the Gold Coast, you will be well-served.  He has 45 lots on offer with a further six heading to the Inglis Classic.
