Magic Lord Kanaloa Yearlings an International Highlight

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 2

The sire of last weekend’s Japan Cup winner Almond Eye, Lord Kanaloa has been announced as the most expensive publicly-priced member of the 30-strong roster at Shadai Stallion Station in Japan for 2021.

His fee has been reduced for next year and Lord Kanaloa will be available at ¥15m (A$193,950), from this year's ¥20m.

Lord Kanaloa

From small numbers of runners in Australia, Lord Kanaloa has made his presence felt with five winners from eight runners led by Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Tagaloa, who was bought from the Arrowfield draft at the 2019 Magic Millions for $300,000.

Arrowfield will offer two more yearlings at Magic Millions by Lord Kanaloa and both are from superbly bred Japanese mares.

Lot 36 is a filly from Almandine (Jpn), a half-sister to Group I winners Chrysoberyl and Marialite as well as Group II winner Lia Fail and stakes-winner Chrysolite.

Lot 461 is a colt from Laguna Azzurra (Jpn), a winning half-sister to Group III winner Seewind from stakes-winner Silky Lagoon. He is bred on the exact same cross as Tagaloa, who is also from a daughter of Sunday Silence stallion Heart’s Cry.

Sunday Silence blood has been good for Lord Kanaloa with 17 of his 23 stakes-winners carrying Sunday Silence blood on their dam’s side including all of his four Group I winners and both of his Magic Millions yearlings are bred this way.
