Nicks that Click – Karaka 2021

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Monday November 30

Ocean Park has become a big favourite with Australian investors thanks to the deeds of his Group I stars Kolding and Tofane along with Group winners Oceanex and Another Dollar with Ocean Beyond, his new Melbourne stakes-winner last Saturday, highlighting a successful nick for the Cox Plate winning sire.

Ocean Beyond became the third stakes-winner for Ocean Park bred from a daughter of Waikato Stud’s former champion sire Pins joining Group III winner Another Dollar and stakes-winner Pretty to Sea as well as Group III placed Marine.

The nick has produced 18 winners from 27 runners so has nearly 67% winners to runners and 11% stakes-winners to runners.

The following lots entered for Karaka Book 1 are bred on this emerging nick.

Lot 72 Filly Ocean Park x Rivertaine Coup – Woburn Farm

Second foal of a five time winning close blood relation to Pins’ Group I winning daughter Legs from a prolific Black Type family that has also produced Champion 3YO Xtravagant and Group I winners Tiptronic, Sixty Seconds and Guyno.

Lot 174 Filly Ocean Park x Thimble – White Robe Lodge

From stakes-winning sprinter Thimble from the family of Group I placed Oval Office.

Lot 511 Filly Ocean Park x Like a Lie – Three Valleys

First foal of a full sister to Group III placed Florence Jean and three-quarter sister-in-blood to Australian Group III winner Stickpin, who was also second in a Group I MRC Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.

For breeders who are interested in line breeding to superior females, the pedigree of Ocean Beyond holds intrigue in that area as he has a double cross of blue hen Hunza, who left five stakes-winners headed by Golden Slipper winner Courtza and two time Adelaide Cup winner Our Pompeii.

His sire Ocean Park claims Hunza as his fourth dam, while his dam Frankly has Hunza as her third dam.

Ocean Beyond is the second stakes-winner to carry a double cross of Hunza from 38 winners, the other being dual Group I winner Grunt, now at stud in Victoria.

Online bidding services will be available for all registered buyers who are unable to physically attend Karaka 2021, with all yearlings available for on-farm inspections and New Zealand-based agents available to inspect on behalf of.
