Entries Open for New Karaka Online Yearling Sale

Media Release - Friday November 27

Off the back of a successful Ready to Run Sale with the addition of a new online bidding facility, New Zealand Bloodstock is pleased to announce their further expansion into the realm of online thoroughbred auctions.

NZB is adding a new addition to their sale calendar, which will be known as the National Online Yearling Sale set to take place on 3 February 2021.

The newcomer to NZB’s National Yearling Sale Series will take up a fully digital format, set to be conducted on NZB subsidiary and premium online platform Gavelhouse Plus, following the conclusion of Karaka 2021.

Managing Director Andrew Seabrook is assured by the current landscape of online thoroughbred auctions, emphasised by the online bidding participation at last week’s NZB Ready to Run Sale responsible for 31% of the total Sale turnover.

“Over the Last 12 months there has been a huge shift in people’s thinking in regards to how they buy a horse.”

“I am confident that, provided buyers are equipped with all the information they need, their appetite to participate at this Sale will be strong,” commented Seabrook.

Another benefit of the digital catalogue is that all lots offered in the National Online Yearling Sale are eligible to be nominated for NZB’s lucrative Karaka Million Series

Just 12 short months after they make their virtual sale-ring debut, graduates of the online sale can compete for a share in the $1m Doubletree by Hilton Karaka Million 2YO (1200m), followed by the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m) and $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup (2200m) for the remainder of their careers.

Succeeding the National Online Yearling Sale is NZB’s 2021 South Island Yearling Sale, set to be held on Gavelhouse Plus for the second year in a row.

The 2020 edition was the first-ever NZB Sale debuted on Gavelhouse Plus, allowing vendors and buyers to confidently operate under the terms of a traditional auction. This format will continue for the 2021 edition commencing on 14 April 2021.

Entries for the South Island Sale will open on 9 February 2021 and close on 17 March 2021.

Following normal Sale protocol, the National Online Yearling Sale and 2021 South Island Sale will continue to be run under NZB Terms and Conditions.
