Silent Commands Becomes the Third Stakes Winner from the Final Crop of Commands

Mark Smith - Sunday September 10

The Group II Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 29 is on the agenda for the Commands colt Silent Command following his surprise victory in Saturday's $100,000 Listed Goldin Farm Morphettville Guineas (1600m).

The Nick Smart-trained colt broke his maiden over the same track and distance back in March before finishing fifth in the Listed Oaklands Plate.

At his first run this season the son of Commands beat just one of the seven runners home in a benchmark race at Sandown.

Settled midfield by Shayne Cahill, Silent Command hit the front inside the 200 metres before holding the challenge of High Chaparral filly Bring Me Roses by a half-neck with the Americain (USA) colt Amerock one and quarter lengths back in third.

Shadwell Stud's $900,000 Snitzel colt Mutamayel started a short-priced favourite but beat just one runner home.

Winning trainer Nick Smart, who now trains out of Ballarat, said colt was highly regarded by the stable.

"We've always had an opinion of him. He's had a bit of bad luck but it was fantastic to get the result today," Smart told The Advertiser.

"He's a lovely horse. It was a really big run first-up in the Oaklands Plate two runs back when he got flattened a couple of times and flew home late.

"He showed us that day he was above average but today was the test and he's passed."

Silent Command is the first foal of the Smart family's former top-class racemare Silent Surround.

A $36,000 yearling by Face Value, Silent Surround returned over $300,000 highlighted by a win in the Group III SA Sires' Produce Stakes.

She also placed in four stakes races including second to Faint Perfume in the Group II Wakeful Stakes and was third in the Group II Edward Manifold Stakes.

Silent Surround has a yearling filly by Dalakhani (IRE) and was covered by Dundeel last spring.

From the final crop of 116 foals of Commands, Silent Command becomes the 75th stakes winner for the son of Danehill who died in July 2014.

Silent Command is the third stakes winner from his final crop after the Group I Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes winner Melody Belle and the Listed SAJC Lightning Stakes winner Bandipur.
