Battle of the Bluebloods

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 25

The first race at Warwick Farm on Wednesday featured a thrilling finish with a trio of blue-blooded three year-olds seeking to cast off maiden status and the final result decided in the steward’s room.

First past the post was I Am Invincible’s $1.4million son Captivare, who led all the way and was still in front by a head at the line over Godolphin’s Golden Horn colt Tamerlane with third place held by the Ingham family homebred Cat D’Doro, a Medaglia D’Oro colt from form former star racemare Catkins.

Hugh Bowman on the James Cummings trained Tamerlane protested successfully against Captivare to claim the victory, the talented colt having just his second start and first run back from a lengthy spell.

Tamerlane’s debut run when eighth in the Group III Black Opal Stakes back in March after being slowly away held a glimmer of promise and he’s clearly a colt on the way up.

Conceived in the Northern Hemisphere by Epsom Derby winner Golden Horn, Tamerlane is the first foal of Wordcraft (GB), a winning Shamardal daughter of Golden Slipper winner Forensics, who started her stud career in Europe for Darley.

Triple Group I winner and $3.5million earner Forensics is the grand-dam of Tamerlane.

Wordcraft has a two year-old filly by Lonhro called Speech and a yearling colt to follow by Frosted (USA). After missing last year she was covered this spring by Lonhro.

Forensics returned to Australia in 2014 and has a two year-old Medaglia D’Oro (USA) filly called Victims and was served this spring by Blue Point (IRE).
