Savabeel Blueblood Hindaam Opens Stakes Account

Mark Smith - Saturday November 14

A perfectly times ride by Daniel Stackhouse paved the way for Shadwell Stud’s high-priced Savabeel filly Hindaam to open her stakes account in Saturday’s Listed Joy Holt Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m) at Sandown.

The Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes-trained 3yo filly had just one of the 10 starters behind her on the turn.

After racing on the speed, the favourite La Mexicana hit the front a long way out but, the daughter of I Am Invincible had no answer to the finishing burst of Hindaam who went on to win by a half-length.

Another daughter of I Am Invincible, Star Of Uma, was one and three-quarter lengths back in third.

“She looked the winner a long way from home,” Ben Hayes enthused.

"It is really exciting to get some black-type. She is well-related from the family of Merchant Navy. So it’s a big result and Shadwell will be pleased.

“She’s done really well from her last win (at Bendigo). Riding her quiet like that is the key to her. It unlocks that good turn of foot she has at the end of her races.

“She will go to a nice grassy paddock and come back for the autumn.”

Hindaam advances her record to three wins and a second from five starts with earnings of $128,560.

Quite a few yearlings by Waikato Stud’s champion Savabeel find their way to sales in Australia. Just one has bought more than the $825,000 shelled out by Shadwell for the Kitchwin Hills consigned Hindaam at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Gai Waterhouse and James Harron outlaid $500,000 for Coolmore Stud’s Fastnet Rock filly of Legally Bay.

Named Bayrock she did not distinguish herself on the track, recording just one placing in seven starts. Two years after her sale she was back in the ring at the 2015 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale where she was knocked down to Windsor Park Stud for $140,000.

It proved to be an inspirational choice a couple of years later when Bayrock’s three-year younger brother Merchant Navy scored a miraculous win the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes before his heroics in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Bayrock has proven to be a goldmine for Windsor Park Stud.

Kitchwin Hills consigned her first two foals.

The first was a Charm Spirit filly that was knocked down to Ciaron Maher Bloodstock for $300,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

David Ellis purchased a brother to Hindaam for $875,000 at the 2020 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale.

On August 15 the daughter of Fastnet Rock foaled another Savabeel filly.

Hindaam becomes the 105th stakes-winner for Waikato Stud’s flagship stallion Savabeel.
