Street Boss Colt Wins Merson Cooper Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 14

Godolphin won the Listed MRC Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) last year with talented Street Boss (USA) colt Hanseatic and they won it again at Sandown on Saturday with another colt by the same sire in Anamoe.

An unlucky fifth on debut in the Listed MRC Debutant Stakes last month, the James Cummings trained colt took benefit from that outing and charged home with a wet sail for Damien Oliver to claim a short head victory.

Newgate first season sires Capitalist and Flying Artie provided the place-getters with Forbes turning in a terrific effort to do all but win on debut, while The Art of Flying was best of the rest in third place.

“As far as our two-year-old's are concerned, this guy, from his first start, has probably improved the most,” said stable representative Sean Keogh.

A homebred for Godolphin, Anamoe is a half-brother to Irish stakes-winner Anamba and is the fourth winner from Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Anamato.

A half-sister by champion sire Redoute’s Choice to Group I winner Drum, Anamato has a huge Black type pedigree that also features Group I winners Grand Armee, Yourdeel and Dealer Principal.

She started her stud career in the Northern Hemisphere, before returning to Australian in 2014.

Anamato has a yearling colt by Shooting to Win and was covered by Darley’s young gun sire Blue Point (IRE) this spring after missing the previous year.

Street Boss is in Victoria this spring standing at a fee of $27,500.

Anamoe is the 41st stakes-winner for Street Boss, who  stands at Darley Victoria at a fee of $27,500.
