Seventh Group I winner for Camelot

Tara Madgwick - Sunday November 8

Camelot has been one of the most talked about sires during the spring thanks to the deeds of his Group I winning sons in Australia, Russian Camelot (IRE) (Underwood Stakes) and Sir Dragonet (IRE) (Cox Plate), the Coolmore based son of Montjeu adding a seventh Group I winner to his tally in Europe overnight.

German bred three year-old filly Sunny Queen was a Listed winner going into the Group I Grosser Preis Von Bayern (1m 4f) and came out of it with a neck victory to be the final European Group I winner of the season.

Trained by Henk Grewe, Sunny Queen was bred by Anahita Stablesand and bought by by her original owner Stefan Hahne at the BBAG Yearling Sale for €35,000.

She was acquired privately by Cayton Park Stud in the week before her Group I breakthrough and now has the overall record of three wins and two placings from six starts.

Sunny Queen is a half-sister to stakes-winner Suestado and is the best of five winners from Suivi, a winning Dashaan sibling to four stakes-winners including the dam of Champion 3YO Stacelita, the dam of Japanese Group I winner Soul Stirring.

Sunny Queen is the  seventh Group I winner for Camelot and is his fourth this year joining Russian Camelot, Sir Dragonet and Irish Oaks winner Even So.

Camelot has had a very good year in 2020.
