Street Cry's Savatiano Smashes Through the $2 Million Barrier

Mark Smith - Saturday November 7

The excitement at Godolphin had barely died down following the imperious performance of Bivouac in the Group 1 Darley Sprint at Flemington when the royal blue struck again with the grand Street Cry (IRE) mare Savatiano in the Group II Hyland Race Colours Hot Danish Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill.

That makes it $2 million (Steve Hart)

Revelling with the cut in the ground, Savatiano defeated Tricky Gal (Magic Albert) by a half-length with the favourite Positive Peace (Stratum) one and a half lengths back in third.

It was the sixth stakes win for the 6yo mare advancing her record to eleven wins, nine seconds and three thirds from 36 starts with earnings of $2,054,910.

Winning trainer James Cummings said Savatiano had not appreciated the hard tracks in Melbourne at her last two starts.

"Those tracks were too firm for her the last two starts and she just won't let go," Cummings told AAP.

"The guys at Osborne Park have done great at getting her back and convincing me to keep her going and not to tip her out and wait for next year.

"It's been a big result and a deserving result.

"Without winning a Group One, this horse has won over $2 million in prize money, which is a wonderful credit to the prize money that owners everywhere in this country are privileged enough to race for."

The daughter of Street Cry (IRE) is a half-sister to the stakes placed Lonhro filly Athiri who placed in the Group II Blue Diamond Prelude, Group III Magic Night Stakes and Group III Kindergarten Stakes.

They are out of the winning Redoute’s Choice mare Retsina who is a daughter of the top-class racemare Star Shiraz who was purchased by Darley for $1,125,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions National

Broodmare Sale before on-selling her to Aquis Farm for $200,000, ten years later.

Restsina has a 2yo colt by Hallowed Crown named Vilana and a yearling colt by Lonhro.

She was covered by Street Boss (USA) last spring and foaled a colt on October 22.
