First Winner for Star Turn

Mark Smith - Saturday November 7

Given a solid push in the betting ring, the Kelly Schweida-trained Miss Hipstar made a winning career debut over 1100m at Doomben on Saturday to ring up a milestone first winner for Vinery Stud’s Star Turn.

Sent straight to the front by Larry Cassidy, Miss Hipstar led home a bevy of fillies by first season stallions.

The Odyssey Moon filly Berdini's Girl was beaten half a length in second with a length and a half back to the Defcon filly Alert And Ready who edged out the Maurice (JPN) filly Invinsible Tears for third.

Purchased by her trainer for $150,000 out of the Vinery Stud draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Miss Hipstar is a half-sister to the Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes runner-up Still Single (More Than Ready) out of the Not a Single Doubt’s Listed  ATC Keith Mackay Hcp winner Single Style.

Last season single Style foaled a filly by More Than Ready (USA) and on October 14 delivered her fifth consecutive filly, a daughter of Zoustar.

A glorious looking son of Star Witness, Star Turn covered 158 mares in his first season. He had a slight decrease in service fee from $22,000 to $16,500 in 2020.
