Wayward Rich Enuff Filly Dosh Makes Stakes Winning Debut

Mark Smith - Thursday November 5

Making her career debut, the heavily backed favourite Dosh looked set for a comfortable win in the Group III Darley Ottawa Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Oaks day before she began to take as many steps sideways as she did going forward.

Jordan Childs managed to gather up the wayward daughter of Rich Enuff to nose out the Shalaa (FR) filly Nice For What, whose half-sister Montefilia will go off a short-priced favourite later in the day in the Oaks.

The Choisir filly Butter Blonde was a length back in third.

“We really liked her from day dot. She has shown us a lot of ability at home,” Childs said.

“We came here confident, but she has still a lot to learn, she is not there mentally as yet, but she has untapped ability.

“She travelled well in front, and I waited for as long as I could. I gave her a squeeze, and I still hadn’t fully gone for her, but she is just immature and spots things, a typical young horse that doesn’t quite know how to go straight and nearly chucked it away.”

Trainer Grahame Begg said the daughter of Rich Enuff had done a similar thing in a jump out.

“She did the same thing when we took her to Moonee Valley. She wanted to layout coming to the winning post,” Begg revealed.

“She pulled enough out to win today. She showed natural ability from the first day we started to do a bit of work with her. She has been very professional about the way she goes about everything.

“When I first laid eyes on her (at the sales) I thought I have to have her.

“She is from a great family that goes back to Bold Promise, Dear Demi, Capitalist, and Merlene; they are all out of the family. It is a great filly family, and I’m sure she will become a very valuable filly.

“She will be put away as she has been in a long time. She is a massive doer in the stable. She weighs 510kgs, which is massive for a two-year-old.

Purchased by her trainer for $155,000 out of the Glenlogan Park draft at the 2020 Classic Yearling Sale, Dosh is the third foal and the second winner from as many to race out of the Shovhog mare Raise Up who was a 6-time winner in Brisbane.

Raise Up’s dam Raise a Million (Raise a Crown) is a half-sister to dual Group II and Magic Millions winner Bold Promise (Luskin Star), the dam of Golden slipper winner Merlene, dual Group 1 winner Miss Pennymoney and Group III winner Compulsion who is the granddam of Golden slipper winner Capitalist.

After missing in 2018, Raise Up foaled a sister to Dosh on September 21.

Dosh becomes the second stakes-winner for Woodpark Studs Written Tycoon stallion Rich Enuff following the Listed Winning Edge Stakes winner Plutocrat.

The seventh leading first-crop stallion last season, Rich Enuff stands at Woodside Park Stud at a fee of $8,800.
