Second Stakes for Redoute's Choice Mare Ravi

Mark Smith - Saturday September 9

The fact that royally-bred Redoute's Choice mare Ravi is still in training rather than being in the broodmare paddocks is a good indication that connections felt that just one Listed stakes win on her CV was not a true indication of her class.

Twelve months ago the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained mare kick-started her season with a second to future Group I winner Heaven's Above in the Group III Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill and came back to make her seasonal debut in the same raced on Saturday and went one better.

The Kia Ora Stud homebred performed credibly in a pair of stakes races over the Melbourne Spring Carnival before winning the Listed How Now Stakes at Doomben.

"First-up that's a great result," Peter Snowden said.

"We wanted to be a bit positive early, she stepped well, looked like she was going to get caught three deep but Kerrin persevered and got into a great spot.

"She travelled really well and there was a lot to like about her last 200m, she was very strong.

"There are stakes races around everywhere over the next two months here and in Melbourne so hopefully off that we've got a pick of a few to come."

Consigned by Kia-Ora Stud to the 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling sale, Ravi failed to make her $200,000 reserve.

With her second stakes win in the bag, Ravi advances her overall record to 6 wins, 2 seconds and 2 third from 15 starts with earnings of $406,020.

A sister to the Listed Newbury Carnarvon Stakes winner and multiple Group II placed Elzaam, Ravi is the seventh foal of the winning Kingmambo mare Mambo In Freeport (USA) a half-sister to Grade 1 Debutante Stakes winner Point Ashly (Point Given) and Grade II winner Raw Gold (Rahy) the dam of multiple Listed winner Kadira (Kafwain).

Mambo In Freeport (USA) has an unraced 3yo filly by All Too Hard, named all Too Free, but has not had a mare return submitted for the last three seasons.
