Promising Winner for Rubick

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 28

It’s not easy for a three year-old to jump straight from a provincial maiden win to Benchmark 72 company at Randwick on Wednesday, but Rubick gelding El Buena made it look easy.

Gelded after his first three starts, which showed promise but also some issues to manage, the Chris Waller trained El Buena showed the benefit of that decision when scoring a stylish win as a heavily backed favourite.

He was strong to the line taking the 1300m contest by three-quarters of a length, taking his overall record to two wins and a placing from six starts with prizemoney topping $70,000.

Chris Waller put the polish on Rubick’s record breaking Everest winning son Yes Yes Yes, so is sure to get the best from El Buena as his career unfolds.

A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Mulcaster Bloodstock / Waller Racing from the Coolmore draft, El Buena was bred by Colm Santry and is the first foal of For Lulu, a winning sister to Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Catchy from Group II winner Cats Whisker.

El Buena as a yearling

For Lulu has a two year-old filly by American Pharoah (USA) that made $300,000 at Inglis Easter this year when snapped up from the Coolmore draft by Lindsay Park Racing / Andrew Williams Bloodstock and she has a yearling filly by the same sire to follow.
