UK Stakes-Winner for Aussie G1 Winner Irish Lights

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 26

Fastnet Rock’s 2009 Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights has been at stud in the Northern Hemisphere since 2017 and featured with a juvenile stakes-winner last weekend when her two year-old colt Lipizzaner won the Listed Doncaster Stakes (6f).

Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, Lipizzaner was second at his previous outing in Group III company and was rewarded for his consistency this year with a length and a quarter win, his second from seven starts.

Lipizzaner is the third winner from three foals to race from Irish Lights, whose best offspring is Australian Group II winner Omei Sword, who made $1.7million at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale when bought by Dean Hawthorne Bstock (BAFNZ)/Freyer Bstock.

Lipizzaner went through the Keeneland September Yearling Sale last year fetching $650,000 and his full brother made $230,000 at the same sale this year.

Irish Lights foaled another colt by Uncle Mo in 2019 and visited Triple Crown winner Justify this year.

Lipizzaner is the 69th stakes-winner for Uncle Mo and is the 37th for Fastnet Rock as a broodmare sire.
