One to Watch – Grafton

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 20

This debut winner at Grafton on Tuesday was an eye-catcher for three reasons - her obvious talent, her unique nature in being the first winner for a sire nobody has heard of and the fact her name is that of myself and my daughter, so of course we were on her!

The John Shelton trained filly Tara Jasmine was widely tipped to figure in the finish of the 1100m maiden on the strength of a good recent barrier and lived up to expectation

She began fast from an inside gate and rushed forward to hold the fence before settling behind the leader to enjoy a good run in transit. Shown clear running in the straight she powered clear of her rivals to win by two lengths as favourite.

Retained to race by her breeders, Tara Jasmine is the first foal of Dr Green mare Carmela Miss, who won six races and is a half-sister to stakes-placed Bush Ball from Country Ballet, who won 16 races.

She is the first runner and first winner for Cowboy Blue, an unraced son of High Chaparral (IRE), who has just 31 foals from four seasons at stud with Tara Jasmine coming from his third crop.

He died in 2018, so there will be no more to come from Cowboy Blue, who stood at a fee of $1,400.
