Sidestep - Mr Versatility

Mark Smith - Monday October 19

Telemon Thoroughbreds Sidestep is nothing if not versatile - his 3yo son Theleme was a four-length winner of a €110,000 Group II hurdle over 3600m at Auteuilin, France overnight followed by the first two winners at Muswellbrook on Monday over 900m and 1000m.

The Mark Schmetzer-trained Winside made a winning career debut in a 900 metres maiden.

Ridden by Koby Jennings, the 3yo filly sat just of the speed before tacking control in the straight to win by two and a half lengths.

A $26,000 purchase by Noble Bend Farm out of the Oaklands Stud draft at the 2019 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Winside is the first foal of the 4-time winner She’s All Ours who hails from the family of Royal Ascot Queen Anne Stakes winner Waajib.

Sidestep struck again in the following race, a benchmark 58 over 1000m.

Off the scene for 21 weeks, the Cameron Crockett-trained Step On Fire sat outside the leader before Reece Jones guided him to the centre of the track to run out a comfortable two length winner.

The Kennedy family homebred 4yo gelding advances his record to two wins and a third from five starts.

Out of the Strategic mare Are You Ready, Step On Fire is a half-brother to three winners including a couple of Crockett stable stalwarts, Are You Sure (Arena) and Ori On Fire (Benfica).

The sire of the Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi, Sidestep stands at Telemon Thoroughbred for a fee of $16,500.
