Odyssey Moon Makes the Perfect Start

Mark Smith - Sunday October 18

The Chris Munce-trained Berdini's Girl was friendless in the betting at her career debut in Sundays $50,000 Haymans Electrical Caloundra Hcp (1000m) at the Sunshine Coast, but that did not stop her winning like a filly with a future.

Ridden by Michael Hellyar, Berdini's Girl had just two of the 11 runners behind her early before moving into a striking position on the home turn.

When eased out to find clear air, Berdini's Girl powered to the line to defeat Vienna Empress by a long-neck with Rhapsody Rose three-quarters of a length back in third.

Bred by Woodpark Stud, Berdini's Girl becomes the first winner from the only runner to date by Twin Hills Stud's Group III VRC Standish Handicap winner and Group 1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes runner-up Odyssey Moon (Snitzel)

Bearing a striking resemblance to her sire, Berdini's Girl was purchased for $35,000 by Munce Racing / A Hoyeau out of the Sledmere Stud draft at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Berdini's Girl a $35,000 Inglis Classic Yearling

She is the second winner from as many to race out of the Bernardini (USA) mare Berdini who won two races at Seymour in an eight start career.

A $60,000 yearling, Berdini was purchased for $26,000 out of the Widden Stud draft at the 2014 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.

She is a half-sister to the hugely talented Happy Galaxy (Nadeem) whose six wins included the Group II ATC Expressway Stakes and Listed MRC Zeditave Stakes.

Berdini's dam Seven Stars (Kings Best), is a half-sister to Group 1 Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso (Dubawi) and to the dam of the Group 1 MRC William Reid Stakes winner Silent Sedition (War Chant) out of the Group 1 STC Coolmore Classic winner Porto Roca (Barathea).

Berdini has a yearling sister to Berdini's Girl and foaled a colt by the handsome Siyouni entire Aylmerton who covered seven mares late in the season.

Odyssey Moon has battled for support since being retired to Twin Hills in 2017. The phones might now begin to ring as the superbly bred son of Snitzel is off to a flyer and stands at a value fee of $6,600.
