Possible Group I Next for California Zimbol

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 17

With a memorable win over subsequent dual Group I winner Loving Gaby in Melbourne last spring, I Am Invincible mare California Zimbol has always had some impressive talent and she showed it again at Caulfield on Saturday winning the Listed MRC Alinghi Stakes (1100m).

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained mare was having her second run back from a spell and hit top form to score a determined victory over classy Deep Field mare Fituese.

She’s a tough filly that never runs a bad race,” said Peter Snowden, who is considering a start for California Zimbol next Friday night in the Group I MVRC Manikato Stakes, a race won last year by Loving Gaby.

“It’s been in the back of my mind for a while and I just wanted to see what she did today and I certainly wouldn’t rule it out.”

A $450,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Asian Bloodstock Services from the Yarraman Park draft, California Zimbol has the overall record of five wins and four placings from 11 starts with prizemoney topping $400,000.

Foaled and raised at Yarraman, California Zimbol is a half-sister to stakes-winners From Within and Cruden Bay being the fifth winner from five to race from the good producing Anabaa (USA) mare Zimaretto.

Yarraman Park sold a colt by Astern from Zimaretto at Magic Millions earlier this year for $725,000 to Asian Bloodstock Services, so he will also race for Hong Kong based owner Mr Liang as does California Zimbol and has been named California Zim Zim.
