Winning Partner Wins Murray Bridge Gold Cup

Tara Madgwick - Friday October 16

A last start winner of the Listed Balaklava Cup, the Tony and Calvin McEvoy trained Dawn Approach (IRE) gelding Winning Partner made it back to back stakes wins when taking out the Listed Murray Bridge Gold Cup (1600m) on Friday.

He drew a little wide, but was able to forge clear and win by a length and a half taking his overall record to six wins and six seconds from 23 starts with earnings topping $350,000.

A $110,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase from the Glenelg Park draft for McEvoy Mitchell Racing, Winning Partner is the best of three winners from Lady Frere, a half-sister by Johannesburg (USA) to stakes-winner General Peekay.

Lady Frere sadly had just the three foals for Glenelg Park and died in 2016.

Winning Partner is one of 12 stakes-winners for former Darley shuttler Dawn Approach, who was here for the last time in 2018.
