Listed for unreserved sale on Gavelhouse Plus on Monday, feverish bidding has ensued, seeing her smash through the previous record of NZ$670,000 to reach AUD$750,000 with the auction set to close from 5pm AEDT on Thursday 15 October.

“Obviously every day counts with mares at this time of the year so it was important to get her online as quickly as possible and the immediate interest was no surprise,” gavelhouse.com General Manager Haylie Martin said.

“She’s a magnificent specimen and a valuable outcross mare in any country.

“John Kelly really nailed it earlier this week when he noted that she’s as nice a type as has ever set foot on Newhaven Park and that those that talk of Queens will need to find a new superlative for her.”

A close relation to Rock of Gibraltar, during her incredibly successful racing career, Spanish Whisper claimed the Gr.2 Kewney Stakes and Gr.2 Let’s Elope Stakes at Flemington and the Gr.2 Matamata Breeders Stakes at two while also placing at Group One level.

New Zealand Bloodstock agent Mike Kneebone has inspected Spanish Whisper earlier this week at Newhaven Park and is happy to recommend and discuss her with prospective buyers via mike.kneebone@nzb.co.nz or +61 439 568 881

Gr.1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas winner Hasahalo (NZ) (Savabeel) held the previous price record, having sold for NZ$670,000 earlier this year to the China Horse Club.

In order to bid on Spanish Whisper on Gavelhouse Plus, buyers must gain prior bidding approval by registering here. For more information on buying and selling online contact Haylie Martin via haylie@gavelhouse.com or call +64 22 637 8127
