Promising Return for Villami

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 7

The most expensive yearling by Foxwedge sold in 2018, four year-old mare Villami was a stakes-winner last season and looks to be headed back to Black Type races this spring after making a winning return at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Sent out favourite for the open 1000m handicap she scored a short neck win over another stakes-winner in California Zimbol with promising Godolphin gelding Pandemic charging home for third, all three place-getters well capable of figuring in Black Type races this spring.

“I’ve got a lot of time for her and I think she’ll run a good 1200m this time,” said co-trainer Gerald Ryan.

“As long as she gets firm footing, she’s hard to beat.”

Villami was purchased for $425,000 at the Magic Millions from the Cressfield draft by Gerald Ryan and runs for a David Raphael managed syndicate and her trainer.

She has the overall record of three wins and five placings from 12 starts with prizemoney topping $350,000.

Bred by Cressfield, she is a half-sister to Group III placed Aquagirl being the best of eight winners from eight foals to race from Group III winning Dehere (USA) mare Galapagos Girl, a half-sister to blue hen Procrastinate, the dam of champion filly Laisserfaire and four other stakes-winners.

Now based at Woodside Park in Victoria, Foxwedge stands this spring at the value fee of $11,000.
